Julia Iafrate, DO

Julia L. Iafrate, DO is currently a 4th year resident at the Mayo Clinic in the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She received an honors bachelor of science in kinesiology from McMaster University in Canada. As an athlete and competitive dancer, she has always had a love of sports. After graduating from college she moved to Kenya to pursue another one of her passions – international travel and volunteer medicine – where she worked with a mobile medical clinic and created a women's health education program. Upon returning home, she followed her dream of becoming a sports medicine physician to the USA and attended Midwestern University's Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine.

During her residency she was nominated as the chief resident of her Transitional Year class at St. Vincent Hospital, and is presently the Vice President of the American Osteopathic College of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Resident Council. At the moment, she is applying to sports medicine fellowships, and plans to remain in the United States to practice following her training.

Her special interests include dance medicine, professional and collegiate level field coverage, current research in regenerative medicine, resident education, and musculoskeletal ultrasound. She enjoys teaching, and is currently serving as the team physician for a few local high schools in the Rochester area. She recently joined the Sports Review Journal team and hopes to continue down this path toward a successful career in academic medicine.
