Matthew Matava, MD

Dr. Matthew J. Matava. M.D. is the head team physician for the NFL's St. Louis Rams, a team he has served for over 14 years. He is president of the National Football League Physicians Society (NFLPS), a professional organization founded in 1996, made up of over 150 NFL team doctors.  Dr. Matava has expertise in ligament injuries of the knee, articular cartilage restoration, meniscal transplantation; athletic injuries of the shoulder including instability and rotator cuff issues; and pediatric knee disorders, was recently hailed by Orthopedicsas one of the top 28 sports knee surgeons in the nation. He is a well-known and sought after expert in NFL on-field health and safety protocols.  

For the past 17 years, Dr. Matava, also a team physician for the NHL's St. Louis Blues, has been consistently ranked one of the top doctors in America.  He is a professor of orthopedic surgery at Washington University and head physician for the Washington University Athletics Department.

Dr. Matava, who has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed, received his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, his internship at Emory University, Atlanta, GA, his Residency at Emory University, Atlanta, GA and his Fellowship at Cincinnati Sports Medicine & Orthopedics.
